Early November...

November is always such a busy month.... I suppose for all of us ~ Preparing for the holidays and all.  This week is an especially busy week for me, but, I wanted to take a little time to stop and say Hello to all  of my blogging friends today.  I haven't had much to blog about lately. I suppose I've been a little discouraged with all the messes around me lately . Seems I just can't seem to keep things neat and orderly around here these days. This unfinished house gets to me sometimes. Especially when the holidays draw near, and I have company coming.  I've been trying to live with the downstairs as it is, and decorate it anyway, even though the walls are unfinished drywall, some aren't walled yet, so you can see insulation everywhere...geez !  I am just going to focus on what I do have, and not worry about the rest. It is what it is.  Now, If I can just keep that attitude at all times, I'd be alright.
I am extremely fortunate to have all that I do have....afterall, the upstairs is wonderful, and I am able to unleash some of my decorating needs up there. I just love stuff !  As for me...it's the simple things that please me the most.

I  may not be able to do alot of things in the downstairs ...but, I can arrange with little vignettes, and play photographer.  It's my fun.

I also want to share with you my Favorite Potato Soup recipe.   Potato soup has always  been my comfort food...I dearly love it with a grilled cheese sandwich.  A hearty  helping of that will make
all my sorrows go away  :-)    Now, my husband is not a big soup fan, but, he said this last batch was the best he's ever had.  Just the right texture and consistancy.  I will have to agree. Here's the recipe....

6 cups diced potatoes
1 cup shredded potatoes
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped celery
4 cups chicken broth
4 cups  half & half ( use fat free - it's just as good :-)
6 tbs. butter
salt and pepper to taste
Simmer the diced potatoes , celery and onion in broth  until tender. Mash JUST a few of the potatoes. Then, add the shredded potatoes, half & half, and butter.
Simmer and stir occasionally until piping hot.  Top it off with some shredded cheese, chives and bacon bits.   Really, really good !

I wish for you all a most wonderful week.  I am off to get all my goods ready for my first Christmas offerings of the season on my
CINNAMON CREEK site tonight.  I have have been in a very grungy and primitive mood lately.  You'll find some very scrappy Santas, snowmen, and other cool things on there tonight.  I think you'll like what you see.  For those of you who don't know about my handmades... You might want to take a peek .... I like to think it's more authentic style folk art. More crude and scrappy kind of things.  I strive to be unique and original.   Check it out if you get a chance.

Enjoy your day,  Dru

p.s..... blogger is really messing with me today, it has taken over an hour to post this , and It is not even right.  Hope it's just a kink, if it happens again, I'll loose the desire to blog, and fast.

  5. Good morning, and Happy November - your photos are so beautiful! And don't worry about not being able to decorate the whole house - a lot of decorators I've read advise to focus on one room of the house to decorate for the season anyway :) Can't wait to try the soup recipe - I love potato soup!

  6. ...Oh dear, don't lose the desire to blog. I'd be lost, I love it here. :o)

...I know how you feel regarding wanting everything to be done and it isn't, it can be overwhelming but it will get done. In due time. It will get done. ;o)

...In the meantime, look at all you have accomplished and revel in it. Decorate for the holidays as if it IS all done, you'd be surprised what guests really do see and DON'T see. Seriously. :o)

...Pour yourself a glass of wine, or whatever blows your barn doors open, and just enjoy. ;o)

...Hoping you have a truly delightful week ahead!

    ...Blessings :o)

  7. Dru, Life can be overwhelming, especially during this time of the year. I have a new outlook, sewing for shops I don't always get everything finished, their is just so much, so if I get it done, great, if not, well I will be ahead for next year. I have been looking for a great potato soup recipe, yours sounds great. Can't wait to see what you are creating. It always makes my day when I see your blog come up. Enjoy your day. Hugs Vicky

  8. Happy November!~ I know what you mean about messes, I cant seem to keep my studio clean! But you are so fortunate to get to live in such a beautiful home and area, no matter that its not finished yet, you're making it exactly how you want it to be! Take some time to relax and enjoy the beautiful that already surrounds you :)

  9. Hi Dru,
I am a follower and faithful reader of your blog! You're one of my favorites so please don't give up! I know the frustrations of dealing with computer junk along with a studio that looks like a war zone! LOL! It's hard to keep focused! You are such a gifted artist and your delight in the simple and tattered treasures is a joy to see. Even a glimpse of one of your creations is enough to keep me wanting to do my own work!
Sending good cheer and hugs to you! Thank-you for all you do!

  11. I truly sense there is a lot of "overwhelmingness" going around these days....for me, I just can't seem to keep up - I haven't crafted in ages, so you think my house would at least be neat and tidy. NOT! And when it's not, I get cranky (o.k...crakier....) - and as for long-term projects - well, let's not even go THERE! Then I think of how quickly the holidays will be upon us and I just want to dig a hole in the ground and burrow under. I think Denise is right - "it is what it is" - and we can either appreciate the beauty in what "it is" or we can just see what's lacking....I'm trying hard for the former....Wishing you a wonderful week ahead my friend....Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin (Your soup looks very similar to my baked potato soup....YUMMY!)
